If it is really a video iPod why isn't the scroll wheel oriented the same as the screen?
Also... pretty nice shot for a cameral phone... too nice.
(RE: The pic from Engadget) - Just like the iHome in the elevator, right? ![]()
they just released the nano.
and now a video ipod? that pisses me off as a new nano user. i just bought one thing and now they might come out with something bigger and better. apple is going to get burned in the long run, they are going to run out of ideas and push to many new products onto the market. they should wait until atleast mid-november for another release and that is still even to soon.
they need to spread things out so when vista comes out they keep people interested in apple. even though an ipod has nothing to do with vista they still need to generate news. to much to soon. the resurgence of apple is headed to the fad category rrrrreal quick, i give it until after the mactel's come out. then apple will be doneso 6 month to a year after.
While the Video iPod may indeed be coming, these pics are definite fakes. The wheel on the white one is disproportionately small, and the whole thing looks like a PS job.
NOTE: THe MDN pic is not the "cameraphone" pic from Engadget. Engadget's is blurry and grainy.
That's obviously a Photoshop job, but based on the rumors, that's close to what it's supposed to look like anyway.
Please don't say it again. It's unfounded nonsense.
Macdaily's images look more like the real thing. Not that other site.
"...that's close to what it's supposed to look like anyway."
Yeah, if Creative were designing it.
Nice photoshop job - shame the wheel is the wrong way round.
Fake image im affraid.
Read closely, folks. The picture on THIS page is a rendered image created weeks ago by some guy proposing what he thought a video iPod might look like. I posted here yesterday the link provided by MDN above. You've got to follow the other link above to view the purported camphone photo of the "real" video iPod.
The control wheel on the nano is smaller than previous wheels. Rumours state that the nano wheel is used, so it would look proportionally smaller than normal on a regular size iPod. How do you think the gained room for a larger screen?
said it once,
You shouldn't be pissed. Assuming the vPod is for real (which I doubt), it's gonna be a lot bigger than the nano, and a lot more expensive. It's gonna use a regular hard drive, not flash. It's aimed at a different market segment. That's like saying "I bought a Mac mini for $500, and then they updated their top-end desktops for $3000. Damn them, I say!"
Here is another pic: http://news.smarthouse.com.au/images/shared/200510050347019d26f.jpg
So you operate it vertically, but turn it horizontally to watch? Yeah, that makes sense.
@ Said it once… >
So, in your crazy mixed-up world, Apple (or indeed any other company) is embargoed from releasing new product lines once you - suffering from poor impulse control - purchase something.
How long is this embargo supposed to last? A month? Three months? Are they allowed to release new products once your warranty period expires? Or maybe they have to wait until you've paid your credit card bill and don't feel so foolish.
Apparently, they should wait until Vista gets released. Why? I have no intention of buying Vista or buying a machine with Vista pre-installed - why should I be penalised because 90% of computer users are tied to MSFT's apron strings.
In closing, the two devices will serve COMPLETELY different purposes and markets - a 4GB nano would never be able to act as a tape proxy for a DV camcorder, a function which I have long hoped for in a video iPod so people can stop screwing around with DV tapes. And the extended screen for a vPod would be more suitable for playing games (remember that job posting from earlier this year).
So, just because you might have purchased the wrong product or you would have preferred to save your money, don't expect 1 billion other people to wait.
That said, I still hope we're going to see a home entertainment server as well as a vPod.
before people start claiming that the Engadget pic is a fake because it would be difficult for left handers to use it ...
What prevents Apple from including a "left-handed orientation" option which flips all the on-screen video options in the software. That way you lefties can just hold it horizontally the other way (with the wheel on the left side) and the on screen stuff would still appear the 'right' way up.
I may be missing something, but it seems to me a typical apple solution.
we will soon see
This is not it. It will probably be a larger entertainment hub using similar by larger format than the mini, or it will be something like an iTablet that has a built in dvd/cdrw drive. That would be more useful than an iPod video as it would be portable, longer battery life, and large enough to actually enjoy a movie.
I don't know about ya'll, but I'm waiting for the ipod halogram
For a mac news site, you guys obviously don't trawl the mac news much.
These images are from someone's blog and they were created to show his thoughts on how a video ipod might look. If I can find the link again I'll post it.
As for the actual engadget photo (which these aren't), please, that is crappy beyond crappy. The screen doesn't line up with the cardboard cutout ipod shape overlaid on top of it.
MDN Magic Word "open" as in "open your eyes"
There is no video iPod. There may be one day an iPod with a much larger screen that can play videos/movies. But it can still play music, show pictures, calender and all the other stuff the other iPods have in common. Apple keeps expanding the iPod's capabilities.
I think with this rumored new iPod that Apple is hinting at a future PDA. Apple is just working out all the bugs, features and manufacturing before releasing the iPDA that will dominate the PDA market as the iPod dominates the music players.
It's a crappy photoshop job!!! The edge of the screen does not line up with the edge of the "viPod".
What prevents Apple from including a "left-handed orientation" option which flips all the on-screen video options in the software. That way you lefties can just hold it horizontally the other way (with the wheel on the left side) and the on screen stuff would still appear the 'right' way up.
But wouldn't the click wheel be upside down then? The orientation of the buttons would be all screwy. More discrimination against us lefties... ![]()
Don't waste my time. When will they come out with the 27" screen?
have high end and low end ipods both?
If I bought a low-end nano I take it as a promise that there will never be high-end ipods again.
Apple you liars!
![]()
Please.
It does not take a genius or much of an imagination to envision what the video ipod would look like. Does anyone think Apple is going to dump the whole ipod/nano design and go in an entirely different design???
Will video iPod play games????
You all have been missing this use.
"So you operate it vertically, but turn it horizontally to watch? Yeah, that makes sense."
Yes, yes it does.
Early,
For some reason, I feel confident that MDN "trawls" Mac news sites quite frequently.
Also, did you happen to read the following sentence from MDN above?
Oh, alright, we got the images above here: http://homepage.mac.com/grahambower/ipod_predictions.html
If you can find the link again, don't bother posting it as it is already part of MDN's report.
christ that's a shoddy job kool!!
mw "crap" as in thats some crap photoshop work!!
Usage Note: Despite the appearance of the form alright in works of such well-known writers as Langston Hughes and James Joyce, the single word spelling has never been accepted as standard. This is peculiar, since similar fusions such as already and altogether have never raised any objections. The difference may lie in the fact that already and altogether became single words back in the Middle Ages, whereas alright has only been around for a little more than a century and was called out by language critics as a misspelling. Consequently, one who uses alright, especially in formal writing, runs the risk that readers may view it as an error or as the willful breaking of convention.
does anyone have a link to the elevator iMac photos from last September? Those were dissected to no end at the time.
What a stupid article, MDN. The site you got the images from says pretty explicitly "The following is only speculation - just for fun. I don't claim that any of it is accurate. However, since this page was first published (on Sunday October 1) the odds of the iPod movie becoming a reality have significantly increased with Apple's announcement of a media event on October 12."
Why do you guys get rid of the disclaimer and print this speculation as a rumor? It's not a rumor. It's a wild-assed guess, based on nothing but wishful thinking.
Slap slap slap.
Whatever gets you through the night, it's alright.
Especially "the willful breaking of convention."
did somebody say touch-screen display...
I'm probably wrong, but I'll go out on a limb and say that Apple is going to come out with something that no one's predicted.
But what?
This is clearly a render. A cam-phone shot my ass.... unless they have a 5 megapixel camera phone.
Asteroid?
Wow, there really are a lot of morons on this site.
Check the links up there. The one that you all seem to think is the "camera phone shot" that looks way too good to be anything other than a photoshop rendering is exactly that.... a Photoshop rendering. Look about MDN's picture and you will see another link to the engadget article with the one that they say is a camera phone shot.
Many of you might want to learn to read and examine things before you continue living your lives, as you'll just be a drain on the rest of the world until you do.

I like it in black!
